At this time, blackbird is a one woman operation. This means everything is made in small batches - everything is measured, poured, and crafted by hand. This is to ensure that I can control quality and freshness in all batches. However, this can also mean that there are slight variations in each batch. If a color, texture or smell is slightly different than your previous purchase, that does not mean it is bad. However, if something seems very off, or is of concern, please contact us.

In short: no. I source all my ingredients very carefully and choose organic whenever I can. The tallow specifically is sourced from Alberta ranchers that I know and trust, who raise their animals extremely ethically, and sustainably. All animals are grazed on pesticide free grass, never treated with GMO's antibiotics, hormones, or given any animal by-products. Some of the ranchers choose to get their organic certification, while others maintain the standards, but choose not to obtain certification. So, while not all of our tallow is certified organic, I am dedicated to using high-quality, sustainable ingredients.

Yes! Tallow products will remain good to use for roughly 12 months. To maximize the shelf life of your product - store tallow in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. For longer shelf life, you can refrigerate it. Proper storage will help keep the tallow fresh and effective for your skincare needs.
